          * Most states in the United States require BY LAW that any motorist using state highways have minimum liability insurance provided by an insurance company licensed to do business in that state. However, some states will allow motorists (even though it's required by law!) to pay (read...legal BRIBE) an "uninsured motorist fee". Once this has been paid at the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) the motorist is then free to operated a motor vehicle on those same highways the state requires the motorist to be insured by their laws on or have their driving priveledges suspended and be placed into a LEGAL SR22 insurance status for any insurance aquired by the motorist in the future.  It's a nice money making system for the states that do this and the insurance companies that do business in the state. It's legality is certainly questionable.
